Hello folks,
I hope everyone is enjoying the good weather and the slight easing of lockdown.
Today I thought we could chat to Malachi, he has been at Diamond for 16 years. He told me that during his time here he has seen a few things and had his bridle put on incorrectly more times than he can count. Malachi told me he doesn’t mind as he understands everyone makes mistakes when they are learning.
When Malachi was much younger he used to find it hilarious trotting off for no reason when he was lead file during lessons. He always made sure his rider was balanced enough and whoosh… off he would go in a lovely trot and leave the leader for dust usually. Luckily he has stopped this habit many years ago and now is a wonderful calm pony for both leaders and riders to learn from.
Malachi is skewbald and has a long mane and feathers on his legs. This hair grows all the way from the backs of his knees and is several inches long. He told me that he is a wonderful example of a cob as this hair is straight with no kinks in it. The straighter the hair, the easier it is for water and mud slide off in the bad weather.
I think I am a cob too apparently but I don’t have long hair like Malachi. Currently I’ve got a Mohican as Sophie gave me a fantastic haircut before lockdown and now it’s growing out. Looking at the grooms It seems no one has been able to get to hairdressers for a while.
Malachi said that lack of hairdressers doesn’t affect him as he just leaves his to grow naturally. Some of us aren’t blessed with free flowing silky mane like him! My mane is starting to resemble a yard broom head.
That’s all from me for now folks. Stay safe and speak soon, love Dougal.
