Our Trustees

The Diamond are very lucky to have a very supportive Board of Trustees that help the staff at the Centre.

The Diamond Centre is run by a board of appointed Trustees on a volunteer basis.

Steve Axon

Steve Axon

Vice Chair

I have been involved with Diamond for almost 20 years and started volunteering back in 2001 when I ran the BBQ at the Autumn Fair for several years. I don’t own a horse and have never ridden seriously but my wife is a volunteer instructor at Diamond and our family has had a long association with the centre.

I have always enjoyed being part of Diamond and in 2009 I took over as Chairman of the Trustees. In 2023 after over 13 years as Chairman I decided to stand down but delighted to remain as a trustee and take on the role of Vice-Chair of this great charity.

Diamond has an enviable reputation for the work we do and the activities we provide for people with physical disabilities and learning difficulties. It is a great place to be associated with and I am delighted to be in position to help Diamond in any way I can to ensure the legacy continues.

Claire Snowdon

Claire Snowdon

Chair

I have volunteered at Diamond for 12 years and as group coach since 2013. I have always been involved in horses and believe passionately in the positive impact they can have on people’s lives, both physically and emotionally. And I have a real soft spot for naughty ponies!

Robert Mathews

Robert Mathews

President

Robert started as a volunteer at Diamond in August 1983 and since then has tried his hand at most jobs at Diamond, including some time as an instructor.

He chaired our Trustees for many years up until 2004 when he  became our President. He has met royalty several times including 2004 when he hosted a visit from the Princess Royal when she came to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Opening of Diamond.

In 2011 he met the Princess Royal again when he was awarded the RDA President’s Award, one of the highest RDA honours.

Robert remains a Trustee and our President and is a familiar face around Diamond. He is involved two days a week playing an important part in the management of the centre and our grazing land, and the welfare of our horses.

Without Robert, Diamond would not function so smoothly. For almost 40 years Robert has helped shape Diamond and it is great to have him as part of the team to ensure the Diamond legacy continues.

Carol Bedwell

Carol Bedwell

Trustee

My background is as a teacher of primary aged children, most specifically those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

I have ridden for many years, with a gap whilst I had my two daughters and when they became more independent, I felt the longing to be involved again with horses and children. As a result, in 2010 I began volunteering at The Diamond Centre and in 2014 completed the requirements to become a Group Coach.

I usually coach a mixture of school children and individuals on Thursday and Saturday afternoons, enjoying the interaction with riders and of course the horses. In order to help further and to become more involved I became a Trustee in 2020.
